Grab'n'Go Media Players

Conceptronic is introducing a new media player called the Grab'n'Go Media player.  There are two versons, the first a 2.5 inch pocket version with a 40GB, 60GB, or 80GB hard drive and the second a 3.5 inch version with a 160GB, 200GB, or 250GB hard drive.  Both players support a wide range of formats including XVid, JPEG, MP3, CD, VCD, AVI, and MPEG 1,2,4.  Created specifically for those who are always on the go, it can be connected to any TV or computer for playback (no integrated LCD screen).

The Grab 'n' Go Player comes with composite, SCART, and S-Video cables.  There's SPDIF cable for 5.1 audio systems, but strangely enough a component cable wasn't included.  It's also equipped with USB on the Go technology making it possible to connect a USB memory drive or mp3 player directly to the player and copy data. You can store films, music, and photos on the drives.  The 40GB 2,5-inch version can store approximately 30,000 photos, 50 films and 20,000 songs. For those wanting yet more capacity the 160GB 3,5-inch version would be a better choice: it can store approximately 120,000 photos, 200 films and 80,000 songs.

iRIVER First Class Lounge

iRIVER has set up a first class airport lounge in Korea for consumers to listen and view media while using iRIVER devices.  You can also purchase iRIVER devices as well.  This beats that Wireless Store in Philly's airport (with their high-priced Palm accessories) by a mile!

Broadband Internet at 125 mph

Last month, I posted about Omniwave's Mobile broadband router that allows surfing via a laptop, pda, and various other mobile devices while in a vehicle.  Onmiwave has a new neighbor on the block as NEC Corp. has developed a mobile router as well.  The router, labelled the LiteBird, can be installed in different types of vehicles, including cars, trains, and buses.  It uses a technology that allows stable communication of more than 6 Mbps for any vehicles travelling up to 125 mph.  Now all I need is WiFi at my hair salon and I'll be set.

Carnival caters to customers w/WiFi

Carnival has outfitted its cruise ship, the Carnival Valor, with WiFi.  Most cruise ships have Internet cafes, but the Carnival Valor can guarantee that any WiFi enabled laptop will work in any of its staterooms, lounges, bars, restaurants, and pool desks.  If you don't have the necessary equipment, you can rent a WiFi card and laptop in order to connect.  How much does it cost? 25 cents a minute...

~I'm going on an eight day Carnival cruise with my family next year and I'm almost glad it's not offered on my ship, the Carnival Liberty.  That's just too much temptation for an Internet addict like myself.  25 cents a minute can turn into a decent chunk of change by the end of a cruise.~

Marriott hotels adopting HD

Marriott hotels now have the option of installing flat-panel HDTVs in their rooms and lounges.  The hotel chain has a four year plan that will roll out over 50,000 LG Electronic televisions at their full-service JW Marriott, Marriott, and Renaissance hotels.  The Baltimore Marriott Waterfront and Cleveland Marriott Downtown at the Key Center will be the first to offer the HDTVs.

"Unique to Marriott brands will be the addition of a connectivity panel with the television.  A desk-level panel offers ample power outlets to enable guests to connect laptops, PDAs and personal entertainment devices, including DVD players, MP3 players, camcorders and video games into the television.  Guests just plug in their devices and the system does the setup automatically.  The connectivity panel is great not only for business travelers, but also families, who can enjoy their digitally recorded images and videos while still on vacation."

United Airlines approved for In-Flight Internet Service

United Airlines has become the first domestic airline to be approved for in-flight internet service.  Passengers will be able to check their email, surf the Web, and send instant messages.

The new service will piggyback off of the airline's existing onboard phone network and data will be transmitted to and received from the planes through towers on the ground. The wifi system should not interfere with communications.

The in-flight service will not be available until mid to late 2006.

~Airplanes are the perfect environment for Internet access.  I'm pretty sure that United is hoping this will bring new customers.  They are currently operating under bankruptcy protection.  Let's hope they don't blow it by raising the prices of the tickets too high.~
