Sony Computer Entertainment America boss, Kaz Hirai, discussed the possibilities of web browsing and movie downloads via the PS3. In an interview with gaming magazine EGM, Mr. Hirai acknowledged that with the increasing adoption of HDTV, web browsing on a game console is more practical. However, he stated that the release of a web browser would depend on consumer demand.
He also discussed the fact that movie downloads were a feature considered for the PS2 in 1999, but the network infrastructure was not available to support it. "Once we have the infrastructure and we have the technology, then you're good to go," he continued. "You've got to have both sides of the equation."

~Listen....the PS3 is rumored to cost $399 (that's before purchasing the separate hard drive). For that much money, it needs to be able to browse the web, download movies, do homework, clean the tub, AND play Madden.~
