Good Morning America in High-Def

Morning program, Good Morning America, will be launched in HD in September beating its competition to the high-def format.  NBC's Today show most likely won't make the transition to HD until early next year while CBS doesn't currently plan on offering its Early Show in high-definition at all.

"GMA ’s embrace of HD is an important milestone for the still-fledgling broadcast medium. Weekday network programming in HDTV has been nonexistent, with the exception of CBS’ HD broadcasts of The Young and the Restless . The costs associated with HD production, typically adding an average 15% to a program’s production budget, and the belief that the heavily female daytime audience is not clamoring for HD (most HD programming centers on sports and movies, both which have strong appeal to male viewers) have made weekdays a virtually HD-free zone. But ABC says it has detected a burgeoning interest among daytime viewers in the broadcasts."

Egress Review

I love RSS feeds.  Plain and simple.  There are tons of websites and blogs that I like to go to but just don't have the time to peruse each one at length each day.  RSS feeds have satisfied my need to be connected to the websites/blogs throughout the day.  Since I carry my PDA with me, I looked for software that would allow me to download feeds.

I've tried several RSS programs.  I was very close to buying Newsbreak because it was easy to use, I liked the ease at which you could read the summary of the article and then connect to it on the web.  It is a visually pleasing program and very easy to add feeds.  The reason I didn't buy it was because I decided to try Egress.  It was a little cheaper and as any Pocket PC owner will tell you, if you can save a couple of extra bucks with software then do it!

I downloaded Egress to my 1GB Secure Digital card where I also keep all my Internet cache files.  You can configure Egress to connect to the internet and download feeds every .25, .5,1, 2, 3, 4, 8, or 24 hours.  You can also configure it to connect every time your PDA is docked or have it never retrieve feeds.

Some other customization options are the ability to change when the feed is marked as read, what browser to use when reading from the internet, where to store the channels and how many items should be kept within the feeds.  You are also given the option of changing the colors and fonts of the feeds.  This is a great option for those people who don't like bigger fonts or can't tolerate the 6 point fonts.  There's also a Proxy tab that allows input of a username, password and ability to override the connection manager.  As you can see, you have numerous ways to customize this program.
