British pay more for gadgets

Researchers have found that our British counterparts pay almost double for gadgets.  Paul Trotter of PC Pro magazine found that a basket of gadgets and software that cost £3,500 from the UK, was £1,000 less when bought directly from US.  Items such as digital cameras can cost almost as much as 40% more.

Manufacturers claim that the price difference is due to a desire to “localise” software and/or protect consumers from potential currency drops.

g-X5 Slider

Thumb_gx5_sideThere’s a new kid on the cell phone block.  Gigabyte Communications (yes they are affiliated with that Gigabyte known for computer hardware) has announced a new handset, the Gigabyte g-X5.

Currently the phone is only available in Taiwan and features a technology called POI (Points of Interest).  Need to find a restaurant?   POI displays e-maps for certain destinations recommended by the magazine, Walker.  The phone’s specs: GSM tri-band, 2.6 million color TFT display, camera, and tri-axis motion sensing (allows users to play games by moving the device in their hand).

ToughSkin for Treo 650

ToughskinSpeck has another case available for the Treo 650.

The ToughSkin for Treo 650 provides rugged protection and good looks. Its one-of-a-kind design customizes the popular rubberized skin for extreme lifestyles on the job or at home. It's the only skin to feature ruggedized bumpers, screen protection, optional keypad protection, and a deluxe swivel holster. If you're tough on your stuff, the ToughSkin is right for you!

Not sure how the covering of the five way navigator affects operating the Treo, but it definitely looks like an option for someone looking for extra protection without extra bulk and weight that many other cases add.  You can purchase it for $34.95 in black and clear.

Southwing SH 305 - Bluetooth Headset

Sh305MobileTechReview has reviewed the Southwing SH 305, one of the smallest Bluetooth headsets on the market.  I found this review especially interesting since we're in the process of testing several different Bluetooth headsets (the Jabra BT110, the Jabra BT250, and the Palm Treo headset).  But back to the Southwing SH 305....this headset features a Favorite Number button that can be programmed with your favorite number and can be dialed with just a push of the button.  Visit MobileTechReview to read the remainder of the favorable review of the Southwing SH 305.

Wood Mania - Part II

WoodcomputerOkay....this wood trend is getting way out of hand.  Earlier this month I posted wood headphones and a wood iPod.  This week, there's a wood-encased monitor and keyboard.

And to make the set complete, don't forget that wood mouse!

Vaja iPod Cases

Vajaipod_3
Classic AP96 - $75.00

I was over at Vaja looking at their cases for the Treo 650 and decided to see what interesting new cases they had for the iPod.  Of course they didn't disappoint.  Two cases that caught my eye:
Ipodrastai-volution rasta - $110

~Their cases may be expensive, but you can't say they're not original.  I do wonder about the strap on the Classic case.  Isn't having that hanging from your shoulder an invitation to get mugged?~
